Autism Awareness Morning

Autism Awareness Morning

Saturday 23rd September

We welcomed our guest speaker Richard Maguire who has worked with Autism Oxford UK since 2010. He is a talented and gifted speaker, who was also diagnosed with Asperger’s in 2010. His wife and teenage son also have Asperger’s. Richard is passionate about trying to ensure that others on the Autism spectrum are enabled to live fulfilling and rewarding lives.

There are a number of families in Chinnor with children that have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). ASD is the name for a range of similar conditions, including Asperger’s, which affects a person’s social interaction, communication, interests and behaviour.

It takes a lot of courage for families of these children to attend Sunday services and social gatherings as they are often very worried about the child’s behaviour upsetting other people.
After seeing the pressure that these families are under, I feel passionately that I want to raise awareness of ASD both within CCC and in the Community. Families often move into Chinnor so that their child may be able to attend ‘The Base’ which caters for children with ASD.
We are a Church family with a clear goal of providing a loving atmosphere where anyone, regardless of background, will feel safe and I would like to welcome more families into our ‘Church family’ where they can feel safe and supported.

Thanks to Kim Hopgood for organising our Autism Awareness morning.
